You will be hard pressed to find a more unique and natural environment than the community of Sugarmill Woods. Developed as the first “greenbelt” community in the United States, each lot backs up to a piece of natural vegetation that is owned by the home owners association, not the home owner. Therefore, the natural beauty, flora and fauna remain intact.

Sugarmill Woods is a deed restricted community, divided into three neighborhoods: Southern Woods, Oak Village, and Cypress Village. Each village is distinct in its own way, but all maintain a high standard of visual neatness and appeal.

Sugarmill Woods in historic Homosassa Florida is a large country club community with three golf courses mingled among the wooded neighborhoods. Most of the incredible homes within this community have a golf course view: both the Sugarmill Woods Golf & Country Club courses and the newer Southern Woods Golf & Country Club course offer spectacular fairway and greens views, as well as glimpses of neighboring magnificent homes.
While golf is a popular pastime in this area, there are other activities residents of Sugarmill Woods can enjoy. Just a short drive down the road is the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Thousands of tourists visit each year to view the wide variety of native plant and animal life housed at the park. The long list of tourists include accomplished business personnel that are familiar with investools and easy going youngsters who simply want to enjoy their weekend holidays. The most widely visited area of the park, however, is the Fishbowl. Here, tourists can delve beneath the surface of the Homosassa River, enclosed in a glass dome, and come nose-to-nose with the gentle manatee.
The manatees are attracted to the warm, temperate waters of the many natural, freshwater springs that dot the area. River tours, boat rentals, manatee snorkel tours and fishing guides are all available in the area.

Great fishing is only minutes away from Sugarmill Woods on the Homosassa River or out in the Gulf of Mexico. Pleasure boating on the Gulf of Mexico as well as record Tarpon fishing is here for the adventurous.
The historic town of Homosassa is steeped in history and monuments, just minutes away from Sugarmill Woods is the old Yulee sugar mill ruins.
Built before the Civil War, this sugarcane plantation, in its heyday, provided sugar and molasses to the Confederate soldiers during the war. The ruins of the old mill and a small museum are on the site.

Old Homosassa was once a small fishing village and has managed to maintained the same quiet village charm that the residents of Sugarmill Woods have come to love.
The Old Homosassa and Sugarmill Woods area also offers wide selections of great restaurants. There are casual and fine dining restaurants, bistros, cafes, pubs, barbecue eateries, steakhouses, and some of the best seafood houses in the county.
